Charlene Wallace Moy, MS, LMFT
Wellness Therapist
At Peninsula Cancer Center, we know that your emotional health plays
an important role in your treatment. Nearly half of all cancer patients
struggle with depression. We are affiliated with a Licensed
Family Therapist, Charlene Moy, to provide holistic emotional support
to cancer patients and their families. Charlene has office hours in
our clinic and is available by appointmnet anytime to provide help
to our patients and families.
New medical research demonstrates that appropriate emotional support can actually reduce pain, anxiety, depression and fatigue during cancer treatment. Not only can emotional support improve mental health during treatment, research even suggests that it can actually improve physical health and treatment outcomes. Depression greatly increases the likelihood of pain and disability because it is a feedback mechanism that ultimately degrades both mental and physical wellbeing.
Charlene's passion is working with individuals, couples, and families to help them find a positive path where they can thrive despite life's biggest challenges. She provides a comfortable atmosphere allowing patients to openly share feelings and obstacles. Her confidential and compassionate therapy sessions give patients practical tools and skills to manage often out-of-control emotions.
She’s also available to meet with patients in her private office on Bainbridge Island. If you are interested in finding out more about how emotional support can benefit you and your loved ones during this time, please call Charlene Wallace Moy directly at (206) 930-0695 or talk with the Peninsula Cancer Center staff about an appointment with Charlene.

Roger Moore, MA, PhD is a Doctor of Clinical Hypnosis and has a Masters in Marriage Family Therapy. He is a Registered Counselor and Registered Hypnotherapist. He has been assisting people to create success in their lives for over 35 years.
Roger focuses his practice on medical hypnosis for health and wellness
issues.
Medical hypnosis is useful in the recovery from cancer, promoting weight
loss, smoking cessation, management of the symptoms of irritable bowel
syndrome, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and other auto immune
disorders . For more than five years Roger has had a growing
client base of people recovering from cancer. Therapies have focused
on healing and recovery and the physical, mental and emotional challenges
of a cancer diagnosis.
Teaching clients skills to manage physical symptoms such as pain, nausea, exhaustion, disordered sleep patterns, incontinence and impotence, as well as maintaining healthy eating, is an important component to recovery from cancer. Overcoming the mental stress and anxiety associated with a cancer diagnosis is also essential. Depression, fear, despair, anger, grief, guilt and hopelessness are all part of a cancer diagnosis and cancer therapy. Relationships with spouses, children, other family members and friends are frequently challenged by cancer and must be addressed. Following treatment clients have to adjust to life after cancer.
Roger utilizes imagery for physical healing and strengthening of the immune system, increased energy and overall enhanced quality of life. One segment of the physical healing is getting the unconscious mind to work in cooperation with the chemotherapy, radiation and other medications. He helps cancer clients create a positive attitude toward their power to control the disease. Planning for and making personal adjustments at home, with family and at work is often a part of the therapy. And, creating hope and motivation for healing is essential for emotional comfort.
All clients are taught self-hypnosis, relaxation and stress reduction techniques so that they have these skills and tools to use at anytime and anywhere. Leading medical institutions are including hypnotherapy as a part of routine cancer protocol. Research shows that patients that use hypnosis before surgery require less analgesia and less sedation during surgery. After surgery, they reported less pain intensity, less fatigue, less discomfort, and less emotional upset. A Stanford University study showed that cancer patients using hypnosis were found to have the lowest pain rating among the study groups.
Here is what one of his clients wrote: “Hypnotherapy helped me reclaim my body and my life when cancer tried to take it away from me. In other words, I am cancer-free, feeling extraordinary and still continue to use hypnotherapy on a daily basis in other areas of my life.” –Olivia
